When Things Go Wrong: A Lesson in Resilience at Wings Over America 2024

At the Wings Over America 2024 event, pilot William “Willie-B” Jackson pushed the limits of extreme 3D flight, performing an exhilarating maneuver that sadly went wrong. In the blink of an eye, the plane came apart mid-air, a testament to just how high-risk and high-reward this sport can be.

But you can tell he feels proud of himself for pushing a plane that hard. Even with the crash, Willie-B knows that testing the boundaries is part of the journey in this sport.

Currently in school working towards his multi-engine commercial license, he’s not letting this mishap deter him. In fact, some of the parts from the wreckage will be repurposed by his dad in the construction of his next aircraft.

In the world of extreme 3D RC flight, things don’t always go according to plan—but it’s these moments that shape pilots, teach them resilience, and push the boundaries of what’s possible. Keep flying, Willie-B!
