September 26–28, 2025 | Birmingham, Alabama
If you’re into low-and-slow rollers, full-throttle walls, and hovering under stadium lights, mark your calendar for the Birmingham RC 3D Night Jam. This isn’t your average fly-in — it’s a high-energy, after-hours throwdown that celebrates the wildest, most extreme form of RC flight: 3D at night.
🌙 What Makes It Special?
Birmingham’s Night Jam is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most visually stunning and technically demanding events in the southeastern U.S. With top pilots lighting up the sky using LED-equipped airframes and coordinated spotlights, it’s part airshow, part rave, and all adrenaline.
The event typically kicks off Friday afternoon, but things really heat up when the sun dips behind the trees. Pilots come equipped with glowing wings, strobes, and tuned gas monsters ready to tear up the darkened sky. Crowds gather along the flightline lawn chairs and blankets in tow, cheering every waterfall and harrier pass like it’s a rock concert.
💥 The Flying
If you love extreme 3D, you’ll feel right at home. Expect to see:
- DA120 and GP123-powered 120cc beasts hovering inches above the deck
- Knife-edge spins lit up by onboard LEDs
- Tandem freestyle demos under coordinated lighting
- Spectacular crashes… and just as spectacular rebuilds by the next night
And yes — the competition is fierce but friendly, with plenty of spontaneous throwdowns and peer-judged challenges for best night routine.
🛠️ What to Bring
- Your 3D rig — preferably something that’s been night-equipped or LED-modified
- Extra props, LED strips, and batteries if you’re electric
- Earplugs if you’re close to the flightline (gas engines bark in the dark)
- A flashlight and bug spray
- A camping chair and cooler for late-night spectating
🍔 Food, Camping & Vibes
The host club goes all out with food trucks, shaded pits, and night flying until well past midnight. Primitive camping is available, and many pilots take advantage of the open field and bonfire hangouts to relax between flights.
If you’re lucky, you might see a full squad of DA 170s lined up like a Red Bull airshow team, or a pilot hover just inches above the LED-lit runway, only to punch out with a blender that rattles your chest.
👨✈️ Who Shows Up?
Some of the biggest names in Southern 3D show up year after year. Don’t be surprised to spot pilots from the Extreme Flight or Flex Innovations teams, along with rising local legends. If you’re new to 3D, this is your chance to learn from the best — they’re often more than willing to talk shop or even help tune your setup.
🎯 Final Thoughts
Birmingham RC 3D Night Jam is not just a fly-in — it’s a celebration of raw skill, creativity, and community under the lights. Whether you’re flying or just spectating, it’s an unforgettable experience. Come for the extreme flying. Stay for the after-dark insanity.
See you September 26–28. And don’t forget to bring extra lights… you’re gonna need ’em.
